OMEGA's PX4600 Series consists of accurate, highly reliable pressure transducers suitable for printed circuit board mounting. The small size and light weight of the PX4600 tranducers make them ideal for tough vibration and shock environments. The sensor is a small silicon chip with 4 diffused silicon strain gages. Laser-trimmed resistors provide excellent temperature compensation from -54 to 121ºC (-65 to 250°F), and users can adjust zero balance and span to tight tolerances. The unusually high performance of this transducer comes from a 4-active arm bridge sensor using a micromachined diffused silicon diaphragm and proprietary thin-film media and dielectric isolation barriers.

Is it pressurize directly to the backside of the pressure die (no metal diaphragm)? Is it compatible with natural gas air pressure media?

Asked by: Jason9123
Pressure is measured by the small silicon glass diaphragm mounted in the middle of the middle of the internal circuit board. Not rated for use with natural gas

The PX4600 specifies an accuracy of +/-0.25% FSO. But the thermal effects across the compensated temperature range, at full scale seem to add an additional 14%. That can't be right? 121°C x 0.036%/°C x 30 mV = 4.257 mV. 4.257 mV / 30 mV=14.19%.

Asked by: bob88
Thank you for this inquire see below For calculating thermal effects: Use 25°C for reference temperature. Max. compensated temperature is 121°C. Change in temperature is 121 -25 = 96°C. Thermal effect is 0.036% FSO/°C. (Note: this is 0.00036 FSO/°C, using decimal equivalent of percentage.) FSO = 30 mV. Calculating for this change in temperature: 0.00036/°C x 96°C x 30mV = 1.0368 mV 1.0368 mV / 30 mV = 0.03456 or 3.456 % Similarly for Min. compensated temperature of -55°C, Change is temperature is 25 – (-55) = 80°C Calculating for this change in temperature: 0.00036/°C x 80°C x 30mV = 0.864 mV 0.864 mV / 30 mV = 0.0288 or 2.88 % Uncompensated silicon strain gages may have thermal errors of 10 to 20 %.

how should this part be tested to ensure hermetic seal is good? how does one know if seal is bad?

Asked by: jake27
Thank you for your question? We will need some more information before this can be answered completely This will be addressed by the engineering depart in detail by email.

We purchase several of the PX4600 series transducers from Omegadyne which we solder to our printed circuit boards. Can you provide the specifications for the recommended mounting distance from the PCBA surface and any other specifications for soldering.

Asked by: Darwin
Omega Engineering recommends a minimum of .125 gap between the PX4600 sensor housing and printed circuit board to minimize stress to the glass hermitic seals during temperature swings.
